Your Preoperative Consultation

You may be asked to come to see your Anaesthetist for a pre-operative consultation some time before your procedure.

Generally we will ring you prior to your operation, but you may also ring our rooms to speak to our staff who will organise an appointment with your Anaesthetist.

When you come to see your Anaesthetist, it is important that you bring the following with you:

  • A list of all your current medications and tablets – the dosage and strengths – whether they were prescribed by your doctor or not
  • Any relevant letters or test results from other doctors

Your Anaesthetist will perform an assessment of your health and fitness for anaesthesia and surgery. Depending on circumstances it may be necessary to arrange further tests or consultations with other doctors.

You will be able to discuss anaesthetic options with your Anaesthetist in a relaxed setting and it is also a good opportunity to discuss any issues of concern you may have relating to your upcoming anaesthetic.
